The Cleveland Browns are returning the majority of the players who made up last year’s solid defense, and they’ll all have an opportunity at a bit of a fresh start under new defensive coordinator Mike Rutenberg. The obvious change is that Myles Garrett and his 23 sacks from last season are no longer around, so there is a need for the pass rushers to collectively atone for his absence.
Jared Verse will be looked to as the main guy who needs to take on the brunt of that 23-sack void, and if he can bump his production up to somewhere around 10-12 sacks, he will have done his job. Alex Wright and Isaiah McGuire are another couple of young talents capable of taking a step forward, but the edge rusher room is still a bit thin and unproven, which is why one notable former Miami Dolphins defender stopped by for a workout on Wednesday.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter shared on X that Tyus Bowser was in the facility on Wednesday. The former second-round pick didn’t appear in the NFL last season and is looking to get back in the game.

Bowser is 31 and has battled with injuries and bounced around between practice squads since 2021, having played in just 18 games since 2021. His best production came in 2021 when he logged seven sacks and a pair of forced fumbles for the Baltimore Ravens, who originally drafted him in the second round of the 2017 draft out of Houston.
With official depth charts getting set ahead of the first preseason games, Bowser needs to get into camp and get cooking soon if he is going to have a shot at cracking a Week 1 roster. Even if he isn’t able to do so, he’d be a welcomed addition to a practice squad in case of injury.
You’re not going to find many veterans like him available on a practice squad, so it will be interesting to see if the Browns were impressed enough to sign him. Stay tuned for updates on this one.
