Cleveland brought in a significant wave of tryout talent this week as preseason action draws closer. Andrew Siciliano shared the full list of names who worked out for the Browns on Wednesday, a group spanning multiple position groups and college programs from across the country. While tryout workouts rarely produce immediate roster additions, they offer real insight into which areas of the roster Cleveland’s front office continues monitoring closely as the summer progresses.

The linebacker position stood out as the clear focus of Wednesday’s workouts, with four separate players at that spot getting a look from Cleveland’s coaching staff. Tyus Bowser, Power Echols, Brandon George, Jamil Muhammad, and Cam Riley all represent linebacker depth options from programs including Houston, North Carolina, Pittsburgh, Southern California, and Florida State.
The offensive and defensive lines also received attention during this round of tryouts, with Gus Hartwig working out at center after a productive career at Purdue, while Timothy McKay and Laken Tomlinson brought tackle and guard experience from North Carolina State and Duke respectively. Given everything Cleveland has already navigated along its offensive front this summer, including extended absences from Teven Jenkins and Zak Zinter.
Genard Avery brought pass-rushing experience from Memphis, while Jeremiah McClendon offered another look at the defensive back position following Cleveland’s recent decision to place Damarri Mathis on injured reserve after he was carted off during a previous practice.
Workouts like these rarely translate into immediate signings, but they give Cleveland’s front office a continuously updated pool of players to draw from as the roster inevitably shifts due to injuries, performance, or final cut decisions in the coming weeks. With the preseason opener against Chicago now just days away, expect Berry and his staff to keep working the phones and the practice field alike as they finalize exactly which 53 players will carry this roster into the regular season.
