The Cleveland Browns’ preseason opener against the Chicago Bears on Saturday left a lot to be desired. In addition to the lopsided 34-10 final score, neither Deshaun Watson nor Shedeur Sanders distinguished themselves in their quarterback competition.
In fact, except for rookie wide receiver KC Concepcion, it is hard to find many standouts from the afternoon. That leaves the Browns with plenty to work on before facing the Buffalo Bills next week.
Fans took to social media to react to the Browns’ big loss to the Bears, taking some solace in the fact that they went up against a potential Super Bowl contender that is just a much better team than they are right now.

“They’ve got a long way to go. There were positives, unfortunately not many. Bears: Super Bowl Contenders, Browns, lucky to flirt with .500,” Gary McPheron posted.
“Oh it was a game. The Browns just stunk it up and the Bears cleaned their mess up quick. If I am being honest, Shedeur stunk it up with the rest of the team. Deshaun barely did better. All good though. It’s the preseason with all new players including mostly rookies. Let’s hope they figure it out before the season starts,” BuffsPlaybook posted.
After taking a 10-0 lead, the Browns allowed 34 unanswered points. None of their three quarterbacks – Watson, Sanders or Dillon Gabriel – had a touchdown pass, and Sanders and Gabriel each threw an ugly interception.
That has some fans already looking forward to the 2027 NFL Draft.
“The Browns QB competition really is going to be the least bad option eh? Let’s be real, Watson & Shedeur are both going to be able to achieve what the Browns want, lose enough to get Arch [Manning] or Dante Moore,” Thomas posted.
“Really wish we could hit the sim button on this Browns season and get to the part where we find a QB with even an ounce of ability,” another fan posted.
Concepcion did turn out to be a bright spot, with a long punt return that set up a field goal, and a 14-yard run that was Cleveland’s only touchdown.
“KC Concepcion is gonna be fun to watch this season for the Browns,” one fan posted.
Sanders is in line to start the preseason game with the Bills, with Monken saying he and Watson will split the joint practice against Buffalo on Thursday.
