Bleacher Report explored the remaining landing spots for wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk this week, and Cleveland found itself listed among a handful of teams that could make sense as a potential destination. Mike Chiari broke down the situation following Keenan Allen’s decision to sign with the Indianapolis Colts, narrowing the market for available veteran receivers still searching for a new home. Aiyuk’s situation carries plenty of complexity given his recent injury history, but Chiari’s suggests a rebuilding roster like Cleveland’s could represent a reasonable fit if the price and expectations align.
Chiari explained why Cleveland might make sense as a landing spot for Aiyuk.
“At this point, Aiyuk feels more like a reclamation project than a player who a contending team would be able to count upon. Because of that, a rebuilding team with a suspect wide receiver group such as the Miami Dolphins, New York Jets, Cleveland Browns or Las Vegas Raiders may make the most sense,’ Mike Chiari wrote.
He has not played in an NFL game since October of 2024, when a torn ACL ended his season with the San Francisco 49ers. Despite hopes he would return at some point during the 2025 campaign, San Francisco ultimately placed him on the reserve or left team list after he missed multiple rehab sessions, with general manager John Lynch later confirming publicly that Aiyuk had almost certainly played his final snap for the organization. He remains technically under contract with the 49ers, who have neither traded nor released him, adding another layer of complication to any potential move.
Whether adding a player carrying this much recent uncertainty makes sense for Cleveland deserves genuine scrutiny given everything already unfolding within this receiver room. Denzel Boston and KC Concepcion have both generated significant buzz throughout training camp. Combined with established names like Jerry Jeudy and a tight end room led by Harold Fannin Jr., Cleveland’s pass-catching corps already looks considerably deeper and more talented than in years past.
With final roster cuts approaching across the league and plenty of teams continuing to explore every possible avenue for improvement, speculation like this will likely continue circulating throughout the coming weeks, though any actual move involving Aiyuk would require Cleveland to weigh the risk that Aiyuk would bring to the locker room.
