Cleveland Browns legend Nick Chubb decided to call it quits on Friday and officially announced his retirement from the NFL. He said via Instagram that he wanted to end his career healthy and in a winning season, which he was able to do last year with the Houston Texans, and said that he has “been avoiding this day for a while.”
Chubb spent eight years in the NFL with the first seven being with the Browns. It’s hard to believe he only played 85 games in Cleveland because it felt like he was the workhorse of this offense for over a decade. As dominant as he was in his prime, his quiet leadership and work ethic made him a legend in Cleveland and you won’t find anyone with a bad thing to say about him as a player or as a person.
Cleveland.com’s Dan Labbe called Chubb one of the best to put on the uniform, and with over 6,800 rushing yards, 51 touchdowns, and 5.1 yards per carry during his time in Cleveland, that take is indisputable. He is one of the best running backs of his generation and the game will miss him dearly.
“One of the most fun Browns players to watch and one of the best to wear the uniform,” said Labbe.

Chubb looked like he still had some tread on his tires last year with the Texans, rushing for 506 yards and three touchdowns in 15 games. He was much better than he was in 2024 in his return from the devastating knee injury that cut his 2023 season short after just two games, so it was nice to see him go out on a high note.
His first five years were as dominant as any running back in Browns history and there was a case to be made that he was the best RB in the league at one point. Who knows where things could have gone had his knee not gotten blown out in 2023, but the team is in good hands now with Quinshon Judkins in place as the next bellcow.
It was an incredible run for Chubb and he can head into retirement with his head held high. Browns fans will remember him fondly forever and he is always welcome in Cleveland.
