Everyone Was Saying The Same Thing About Deshaun Watson On Sunday

The Cleveland Browns walked out of Jacksonville with a 34-10 loss, and it did not take long for the conversation to shift entirely toward Deshaun Watson’s future as the starter. His final numbers do not tell the entire story, as much of his production came after the game was well out of hand.

Watson struggled for most of the afternoon, and the Browns’ offense couldn’t get anything going with him behind center.  After the game, fans have already seen enough of Watson and are calling for Shedeur Sanders to start.

Those numbers alone do not tell the whole story, and fans were quick to point that out. One account replied that Watson put up just 115 yards of total offense before the game had already turned into garbage time, a reminder that a chunk of his production came after Jacksonville had built an insurmountable lead and eased off defensively.

Another fan did not hold back, arguing the outcome was predictable well before Sunday ever arrived.

“He shouldn’t have started week 1. He shouldn’t have ever been here in the first place and I told y’all that from the beginning, let alone be starting next week,” the fan said.

With Sanders sitting on the bench, some fans questioned why Cleveland would continue investing snaps in a quarterback whose long-term future with the team is likely over.

“Are we trying to help Watson with something? Or are we trying to do what’s best for the Browns moving forward? Because Watson is not the future. They need to see what Shedeur is before next draft. Period. Quit wasting time on Watson,” another fan commented.

That sentiment carried over into calls for a quarterback change heading into Week 2.

“Garbage put in Sanders,” another fan said.

Five sacks allowed against a rebuilt offensive line certainly did Watson no favors, and it is fair to note that his surrounding cast contributed to a rough overall performance. But the reaction Sunday suggests patience around Watson is already thin, just one week into his long-awaited return from injury. Whether Todd Monken shares that same level of urgency will become clear soon enough, with Tampa Bay up next on the schedule.
