Not many things went right for the Cleveland Browns in a Week 1 beatdown at the hands of the Jacksonville Jaguars, so the important next step is to put it all behind them ahead of another tough battle at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 2. Both sides of the ball have a lot to clean up, and to make things tougher, former Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield is on the other sideline salivating at the idea of cooking up a little vengeance against his former team.
Mayfield has spoken fondly about his time in Cleveland during the week, but the competitor in him certainly wants to beat his former team for the first time, especially with Deshaun Watson, the man who replaced him, taking the field for the Browns in what could be his last game as the starter if things don’t improve. One of the things the Browns have working for them is that they are mostly healthy coming out of Week 1, though there are a couple of key players who are still banged up.
The Athletic’s Zac Jackson shared an update about the status of tackle Dawand Jones and cornerback Tyson Campbell. He stated that Jones was back at practice on Thursday after being limited on Wednesday while Campbell mostly did individual work.
“Dawand Jones was out there after the team listed Jones as limited Wednesday with a head injury. Campbell was limited to mostly individual work through camp so guessing this is a planned maintenance day but we will see,” said Jackson.

Injuries have plagued Jones over the past couple of years, so it’s nice to see that he was able to come back from this one quickly and it didn’t turn into anything serious. Campbell’s is a tad more concerning since he wasn’t able to log a full practice, and we’ll see if he can log a full practice on Friday, which will be a strong indicator that he’ll be ready to play on Sunday.
It’s still unknown what exactly Campbell is dealing with, though it could be nothing serious as Jackson mentioned the possibility that it was just a planned maintenance day. Cleveland’s depth at corner is not a strong aspect of this roster, so it would be a big loss if he were to miss Sunday’s contest.
