Jarvis Landry Reveals Honest Thoughts About Browns’ Ownership

Ownership scrutiny is nothing new to the Cleveland Browns, as they have heard plenty of that conversation over the years. Questions about how involved an owner should be in football decisions rarely have a clear answer, especially when a team is mired in a difficult stretch. That debate resurfaced again this week around Jimmy Haslam, fueled by reports suggesting he may have influenced the Browns’ quarterback decision heading into this season. Former Browns receiver Jarvis Landry gave his perspective after four years inside that building.

Landry believes Dee and Jimmy Haslam are dedicated to putting a winning team on the field.

“Dee and Jimmy Haslam really want a winning football team for that city. It is no doubt about it. I know there’s questions about whether they are too hands-on and they need to back away, or whatever it is, but at the same time with some of these circumstances, I would never say that it’s just black and white,” Landry said.

Landry spent four seasons in Cleveland from 2018 through 2021, giving him a closer look at the Haslam family’s involvement than most outside voices commenting on the situation.  Plenty of fans and analysts have questioned whether Jimmy Haslam meddles too much in football decisions.

But Landry pushed back against the idea that Haslam’s motives are the problem. Wanting to win and knowing how to build a winner are two different things.

Debates about ownership rarely settle anything.  Cleveland earns trust through results, not through how well it explains a front office decision after the fact. A strong showing from Watson and the offense on Sunday would quiet most of this conversation overnight, while another lopsided loss will keep every name attached to that quarterback decision, Haslam included, under the same microscope this team has already been living under.
