Few fan bases understand hearing about mock drafts in September more than Cleveland Browns fans, given how many years the quarterback position has remained an open question. That uncertainty resurfaced again recently when draft analyst Todd McShay released an updated 2027 mock draft that put Cleveland right back in the quarterback market.
McShay laid out why he sees a fit between the Browns and Oregon’s Dante Moore at the No. 2 overall pick.
“Do the Browns finally, and I mean finally, get their guy? Moore is a natural pocket passer with outstanding anticipation, touch, and accuracy. He consistently throws receivers open and delivers a catchable ball that allows them to transition upfield immediately. He still needs to show more composure when pressure arrives directly in his face, and I’d like to see him deliver in some big moments, but Moore has maturity beyond his years, and his passing foundation gives him high-level NFL starter potential,” McShay wrote.
Moore enters his senior season at Oregon with a resume that supports McShay’s grade. He has thrown for 4,183 yards over three seasons in Eugene after transferring from UCLA, adding 35 touchdowns against only 10 interceptions during that stretch. Through his early 2026 action, Moore has completed 63.6 percent of his passes for 569 yards, 5 touchdowns and no interceptions, numbers that reflect the efficiency and ball placement McShay referenced in his write-up.

Deshaun Watson opened 2026 with a rough outing in a 34-10 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, and questions about his long-term standing as the starter have only intensified since. Sanders remains the presumed heir apparent after entering his second season, but many analysts believe the Browns are targeting the 2027 draft to get their quarterback.
It is worth remembering how far away the 2027 draft actually is, and plenty will change about Cleveland’s record and draft positioning between now and then. McShay’s projection has the Dolphins taking Arch Manning first overall, which would leave Moore available if the board fell that way, but mock drafts released in September are just guesses.
Whether Moore ends up being the target or simply a name attached to early speculation, the fact that Cleveland is already being linked to the top of a future draft class says plenty about where the confidence in them actually stands.
