There is nothing quite like the feeling of winning a home opener. The crowd shows up with high expectations, the energy builds all week, and a victory sends everyone home believing the season could be something special. It did not come easily on Sunday in Cleveland. But when the game was on the line in the 4th quarter, the Browns found a way.
The team celebrated moments after the final whistle.

Browns fans had plenty of reactions.
“We are so back,” one fan wrote.
“wow speechless but i have to give credit when its due! congrats guys wowwwww simply congrats,” another fan commented.
“I have never enjoyed a game more in YEARS. What a wonderful team effort and @deshaunwatson great job thank you. And how about that defense!!” another fan said.
“Watson comes through again… was it really a Kevin problem?” one fan said.
Cleveland held on for a 21-18 win over the Carolina Panthers, moving to 2-1 on the season with its 2nd straight victory.
The game turned into a kicking contest for most of the afternoon. After the Browns took a 10-3 lead into halftime, Ryan Fitzgerald connected from 41, 53 and 37 yards to put Carolina in front 12-10 early in the 4th quarter.
That is when Deshaun Watson delivered. The offense answered with an Andre Szmyt 45-yard field goal to retake the lead with 7:30 remaining. After Bryce Young found John Metchie III for an 8-yard touchdown to put Carolina back on top 18-13, Watson hit Harold Fannin Jr. for a 14-yard score with 1:48 left and then found Denzel Boston on the 2-point conversion.
Watson finished 16 of 30 for 145 yards and 2 touchdowns without an interception, adding 44 yards on 11 carries. It was not his sharpest game, but he made the throws that mattered most in front of a crowd that had plenty of doubts coming in.
Fannin was his favorite target all day, catching 7 passes for 52 yards and both touchdowns.
The defense was the reason Cleveland was still in position to win late. Carolina entered averaging 33.5 points per game and did not reach the end zone until 4:25 remained, going 0 for 3 on 4th down and 1 of 3 in the red zone.
Mason Graham was the headliner. The 2nd-year defensive tackle recorded 2 sacks and 6 tackles, living in the backfield and earning the spotlight in the team’s celebration post. Isaiah McGuire added a sack of his own, and Ronnie Hickman came away with an interception on a day Young threw 48 times.
The running game also took a step forward. Cleveland piled up 131 rushing yards, and Quinshon Judkins had his best outing of the season with 70 yards on 18 carries.
There is still plenty to clean up. The Browns committed 12 penalties for 85 yards, lost a fumble and were outgained 362-259. They did tighten things up after halftime, drawing just 2 flags over the final 2 quarters, and Corey Bojorquez pinned Carolina inside the 20 on 3 of his 5 punts.
A week after most of the league wrote them off, the Browns have now beaten 2 teams that were favored against them. For a young roster still building its identity, learning how to win close games like this one may matter more than any stat line.
