The Cleveland Browns battled against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, and they came out on top with a huge 13-10 win.
The fans in the stands were thrilled to see the two teams square off, but the players on the field were also deeply engaged. According to a former player, this is a rivalry that stands the test of time.
Speaking on 4th and South, Jarvis Landry said that the Browns and Ravens had a “personal” vendetta against one another. He recalled a time when Marcus Peters spit on him during a game.
After that, he had nothing but disdain from the player and the rest of his team.
“Every time we played the Ravens… it was ALWAYS personal,” Landry said.

Football is obviously a very competitive sport. That alone is enough to make players fight hard against one another. But the rift between the Browns and Ravens goes deeper than that. That’s partly because they are both in the AFC North. That means that every game is a fight to climb to the top of the standings and earn their way to the playoffs.
This year, the rivalry between these two teams is even more fierce because of Cleveland’s head coach. Before being hired by the Browns, Todd Monken was the offensive coordinator for the Ravens. He spent three seasons with them and knows the team inside and out. He surely wants to beat his old team, while the players and coaches would love to spoil his first season as a head coach in Cleveland.
The current AFC North standings are very close. The Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Ravens all hold 4-2 records now, with the Cincinnati Bengals right behind them with 3-2.
It’s understandable that things are tense between these four teams. The Browns came out on top during Sunday’s game, and now they are hoping to build upon the success they had and secure their spot as the number one squad in the division.
They may rightfully have some bad blood against the Ravens, but they are attempting to take down every team in the AFC North.
