Winning games and building for the future do not always align in the NFL. Teams in the middle of a rebuild sometimes find themselves in a playoff race earlier than expected, and that creates tough choices at the trade deadline. Buyers want to add help, while patient front offices want to keep collecting assets. The Browns are right in the middle of that debate, and one veteran’s name keeps coming up.
Gordon McGuinness of PFF listed draft capital as Cleveland’s biggest need before the deadline and named Jerry Jeudy as the player who could help get it.
“The Browns are 5-3, which puts them firmly in the AFC playoff race, but the most important thing in Cleveland is still building for the future. While they could boost the roster in the short term, it makes more sense to acquire future draft capital as they continue their rebuild. Wide receiver Jerry Jeudy would make sense if they can get a Day 3 draft pick in return, especially with the emergence of rookies KC Concepcion and Denzel Boston,” McGuinness wrote.
McGuinness grouped the Browns with the Arizona Cardinals, Indianapolis Colts and Tennessee Titans as teams that should focus on future picks rather than immediate upgrades. His suggested price for Jeudy, a pick somewhere in rounds 4 through 7, shows how much his value has dropped.
Jeudy’s role has shrunk this season. Through 8 games, he has 16 catches for 171 yards and no touchdowns, and he has started just 3 times. He was targeted once and did not catch a pass in Sunday’s loss in Pittsburgh.
That is a big change from 2 years ago. Jeudy made the Pro Bowl in 2024 after catching 90 passes for 1,229 yards in his first season with the Browns. His production dipped to 50 catches for 602 yards in 2025, and the arrival of Concepcion and Boston has pushed him further down the depth chart.
He still has moments. Jeudy caught 4 passes for 69 yards in the 13-10 win over the Baltimore Ravens, including key catches that helped earn him a game ball. He is also only 27 years old.
Despite the trade talk, the Browns do not appear eager to move him.
There is also reason to keep him. Harold Fannin Jr. was limited Thursday with a groin injury, and Boston has been limited all week with a calf injury. If Shedeur Sanders starts in New Orleans, a veteran receiver who knows the offense could be useful.
The Browns already hold 11 picks in the 2027 draft, so a Day 3 selection would not change much. Unless an offer surprises Andrew Berry, Jeudy looks likely to finish the season in Cleveland.
