Grossi had previously floated Jacksonville as a logical trade partner for Gabriel, but that path closed when the Jaguars instead acquired Quinn Ewers from Miami. That transaction, however, opened a different door entirely, since the Dolphins now find themselves needing a backup option behind Malik Willis.

Gabriel turned in one of the more efficient performances of the entire preseason during the finale against New England, completing 12 of 15 passes for 186 yards and 3 touchdowns without an interception. That kind of tape makes him an appealing trade target for a team like Miami, which now finds itself searching for a reliable veteran presence behind Willis after moving on from Ewers.
A trade involving Gabriel would also simplify Cleveland’s own roster math at quarterback. Moving Gabriel for even modest compensation would allow the Browns to clear a logjam at the position while still retaining Green’s higher upside skill set as a change-of-pace option behind Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders.
Whether this specific scenario materializes before final roster cuts remains to be seen, but this constant speculation has followed Gabriel throughout the offseason. As the Browns finalize their roster ahead of the regular-season opener in Jacksonville, all eyes will be on whether Andrew Berry acts on this opportunity or opts to keep Gabriel in-house as added quarterback depth heading into Watson’s season as the unquestioned starter.
