The Cleveland Browns are heading home for their third game of the year, and they are hoping to build upon the success they found in Week 2 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
All teams wish for a happy reception from their fans, but the Browns may not get that on Sunday. There is a chance that some people aren’t happy to see quarterback Deshaun Watson after all of his controversies and troubles. But speaking on 92.3 The Fan, Ken Carman said the fans should give Watson a chance.
He’s not against some booing if Watson doesn’t perform well, but he encouraged people to let the man attempt to prove himself.
“Give him a chance. They won last week. There’s other guys out there. You root for the jersey. You root for the colors. You root for the history, as rough as that history’s been since 1999. I’m not saying to go nuts with vociferous, thrilling cheering. You don’t need to have a standing ovation. You don’t need to do that. It doesn’t need to be done. Just let him take the field. If he throws a pick or he starts having three-and-outs, and they start having the problems, within the boundaries of good taste. I feel like booing is within the boundaries of good taste. Any nasty things being said from the stands, certainly anything thrown—that is absolutely not to be condoned and not to be done,” Carman said.

Some might feel it’s pretty sad that fans must be urged to not boo their own team, but that’s the current state of the Browns. No matter how well he played last week, some people are still completely over Watson and wishing to move beyond him. They want Cleveland to end his chapter and move forward without him, his injuries, and his massive contract.
Carman wants people to focus on the well-being of the team. It may be difficult, but Browns followers should attempt to put their feelings aside and remember the storied history of the franchise on Sunday. If the team plays well in Week 3, Carman may get his wish.
But if they run into some of the problems that have plagued them for so long, there is a good chance that Watson receives a very nasty reception.
