There is no doubt that the Cleveland Browns improved during their Week 2 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. And there is definitely no denying that Deshaun Watson looked much more in control and comfortable as the team’s starting quarterback. But that doesn’t mean all the Browns’ problems are solved.
Cleveland is heading home for a Week 3 game against the Carolina Panthers, and Chris Simms believes that Watson will still hear some negative feedback from the fans, although it may not be as fierce.
People are encouraged by what they saw in Week 2, but they’ll need more than that before they silence their boos.
“I still think you’re going to hear boos on Sunday. I don’t think the boos go away until we’ve had four, five, six games of ‘Hey, it’s been good quarterback play. And hey, we’re winning some games along the way,'” Simms said.
If Watson didn’t play well in Week 2 and the Browns didn’t win, this upcoming game would probably look very different. Most people agree that Watson could have been benched in favor of Shedeur Sanders.
He showed a major improvement, connected with fellow players more, and had two touchdowns. He was looking like a quarterback who wanted to win.
But Browns fans aren’t going to suddenly be convinced that this team has turned a corner. They are still very cautious about the state of their squad, and they need to witness a few more strong performances before they start to buy in. Some are also still very upset that they have been put in this position and would prefer that Watson were gone.
Those people will probably let their opinions be known during Sunday’s game. They may not be as angry as they were, but all has not been forgotten or forgiven.
But if the Browns earn back-to-back wins, it’ll go a long way to help.
