To no one’s surprise, Johnny Manziel is showing no desire to quietly fade into the background. He continues to tell outrageous tales about how he messed up his NFL career with the Cleveland Browns, getting booted from the league just two years after he was a first-round draft pick.
Some of his recollections are humorous, while others have been much more serious. His latest revelation is a little bit of both.
Speaking on the aptly named Glory Daze podcast, Manziel shared a wild story after being cut by the Browns and not quite understanding how a casino marker worked.

Manziel was let go by the Browns during the 2016 offseason. He played just 14 games for them after he was the No. 22 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, making eight starts, with Cleveland winning two of them.
In this particular story, he said after being let go, he took out the casino credit and “by the end of a weekend, you’re going out and you’re drinking and you just fly through a hundred grand.” He said he forgot all about it and went on another trip.
Then, he got a call about the marker and was told he had 24 hours to pay it off, or he would be facing felony charges. Still owed more than $2 million by the Browns even after being let go, he should have been able to take care of the debt at some point.
Manziel has started to take more accountability for his career flameout after blaming everyone but himself in its earliest days. His sordid personal history includes domestic violence allegations, a gambling addiction, and multiple stints in rehab for alcohol and drug issues.
In this era of everyone having a podcast, Manziel is likely to keep popping up like this from time to time. Based on what he has admitted to so far, there is likely plenty more where this came from.
Fortunately, the Browns long ago moved on from him, even though they still haven’t been able to find a franchise quarterback.
