The Cleveland Browns don’t seem to have a long-term solution at quarterback, and when that is the case, almost any option is on the table. Some make more sense than others, but nothing is ever ruled out completely, especially in this era of sports radio and podcasts.
Despite some reports that Deshaun Watson could actually re-sign with the Browns beyond this season, it is more realistically believed that Cleveland will have an opening next season. With the team looking like it is headed toward a much better finish than was originally projected, the answer may not be found in the 2027 NFL Draft.
So, analyst Ken Carman is floating a surprising future QB option for the Browns, suggesting they look into Cam Ward of the Tennessee Titans.
“Let me throw this out there for you. You want to do a switcheroo here? You’re not getting Deshaun Watson back after this year, right? You guys want to kick the tires on Cam Ward? I’m just pointing out Todd Monken was able to get Deshaun Watson’s career out of the fire. Anybody on Cam Ward?” Carman said.

With quarterback reclamation projects all the rage in the NFL, and Watson now joining that list under Monken’s guidance, Ward could be an intriguing option, despite a very disappointing brief career so far, with three wins in 22 starts. There once was a chance he already would be the Browns QB, as he was the No. 1 overall pick by Tennessee in the 2025 NFL Draft, when Cleveland was at No. 2 before trading down.
That means the Browns have already scouted him much more extensively than other potentially available NFL quarterbacks. Yet that evaluation may have changed significantly based on Ward’s struggles with the Titans.
He seems to be regressing rather than improving, although his statistics compared to his rookie campaign are similar. Last year, making all 17 starts, he completed 59.8 percent of his passes, averaging 5.9 yards per attempt with 15 TDs, seven interceptions, and a passer rating of 80.2. This year, in five starts, he has completed 62.3 percent at 5.8 yards per attempt with three TDs, three interceptions, and a rating of 77.2
Monken’s resurrection of Watson may be somewhat overblown, as despite three wins, it has only been five games, so that analysis needs more data before fully believing he can work wonders with Ward as well.
