Nobody outside the Cleveland Browns locker room expected this team to be staring at a potential 5-2 start if they can get past the 1-5 Tennessee Titans this week. A win in Tennessee would also equal Cleveland’s win total from all of last season as new head coach Todd Monken and quarterback Deshaun Watson are leading a shocking turnaround for this first-place squad.
The Titans may be 1-5, but they’re coming off their first win of the year following an impressive 26-point second half against the Indianapolis Colts. Cleveland can’t take this team lightly and fall victim to a classic trap game on the heels of beating a pair of AFC North rivals already.
During a recent episode of Ultimate Cleveland Sports Show, Adam Gerstenhaber made his prediction for Sunday’s game, and he is a big believer in his Browns. Gerstenhaber foresees a 24-17 victory behind a strong performance from the passing game.
“If not now, when? Higher scoring game than anyone expects. The offense goes for 267 passing yards and the Browns win,” Gerstenhaber said.
A 24-17 score prediction is far from bold, but the Browns’ last two wins were 13-10 and 27-24, so who are we to judge? This team has been winning with an old school approach and isn’t trying to get into shootouts and blow teams out.
Cleveland could also have the benefit of having a healthy backfield for the first time all year as Quinshon Judkins and Dylan Sampson are both slated to return. Tennessee has a solid run defense, but the Browns are overdue for a strong performance in that department. They rank in the bottom third of the league in rushing yards and Judkins hasn’t had a 100-yard game in over a year. It would be nice to see them get that going to help out the passing attack.
A 24-17 win would be a nice way to continue the current trajectory the Browns have been on thus far. Those are exactly the types of games the Browns try to play, though it would be nice to blow somebody out for once.
