Some records are worth chasing, and others are worth avoiding at all costs. Every franchise has a few streaks it would love to erase, and they tend to come up again every time the matchup appears on the schedule. For the Browns, one of those streaks reached historic territory on Sunday. After a lopsided loss in Pittsburgh, Cleveland now shares an NFL record no team wants.
Adam Schefter of ESPN confirmed the milestone after the 27-6 loss to the Steelers.
“Browns now have lost 23 straight regular-season games at Pittsburgh, tying the NFL record for most consecutive road regular-season losses vs. a team that the Lions held, losing 23 straight games at Green Bay from 1992 through 2014,” Schefter wrote.

The streak dates back to October 5, 2003, when the Browns last won a regular-season game in Pittsburgh. In the more than 8,000 days since, Cleveland has cycled through coaches, quarterbacks and rebuilds without finding a way to win in that building.
The Detroit Lions’ record at Green Bay became a running joke during their own long struggles. Now the Browns share that mark, and their next trip to Pittsburgh next season will put the record on the line again.
This year seemed like the best chance in a long time to end it. The Browns came in at 5-2, alone in 1st place in the AFC North, and they had beaten the Steelers 27-24 in Week 4.
Instead, the game was never close. Pittsburgh ran for 200 yards, Deshaun Watson was sacked 8 times, and the Browns went 0-for-3 in the red zone. They also committed 9 penalties, including 2 taunting calls while trailing by 21. Todd Monken summed it up afterward by saying his team “earned that one.”
The playoffs offer the only exception in that stretch. The Browns won a Wild Card game in Pittsburgh after the 2020 season, but that does not count toward the regular-season streak, and it does little to ease the frustration of another lost trip.
The loss carries more than history. Pittsburgh moved to 6-2 and took over 1st place in the AFC North, while the Browns fell to 5-3 and split the season series.
Winning the division would ease the sting, but until the Browns win a regular-season game in Pittsburgh again, this record will follow them.
