The Cleveland Browns have been playing better than many expected, but they aren’t where they want to be. They are an up-and-coming team, and they want to keep growing and developing.
In order to do that, they will need a solid plan when the offseason kicks off. They will have to know what they want in the draft and work hard to get it. While speaking on 92.3 The Fan, Dane Brugler talked about what the Browns’ number-one priority should be in the draft.
He believes that the Browns need to look for a new quarterback, no matter how this season ends.
“I mean, yeah, [I would take C.J. Carr, Darian Mensah, and Trinidad Chambliss over Deshaun Watson]. We’re still not fully complete with the evaluation process, but it’s trending that way. That’s the direction where I think this team needs to go. The Browns know what they have at the quarterback position. In order to take that next step, get over the hump, I think they have to do something at the quarterback position this offseason. The draft is certainly one direction they could go. All these guys are young. There’s a lot to like about where they’re headed,” Brugler said.

The Browns have settled on Deshaun Watson as QB1 this season, but he could be nearing the end of his time in Cleveland. He is currently in concussion protocol, which means that Shedeur Sanders might be required to fill the void and lead the team. That could help his chances of being a permanent replacement for Watson.
However, even if Sanders does well in place of Watson, the Browns could still be viewing other options. They might continue to pursue a new quarterback, particularly an exciting young rookie in the next draft.
There are a slew of promising players who could work wonders for the Browns. Fans have already heard numerous names linked to the team. But if Cleveland isn’t toward the very top of the draft order, they may not receive their chance to acquire them. The Browns could be forced to settle for a lesser-known, less promising player.
But the Browns have found diamonds in the rough before, and they could do it again. The Browns are clearly pointed in the right direction, but they can’t stop now. They need to keep laser-focused on improving and bolstering their team.
The future of their offense rests on the strength of their quarterback, and many people believe the Browns need to keep their options wide open and keep searching.
