The Cleveland Browns have shown some serious signs of life so far during the 2026 season, but they aren’t solely focused on this year. In fact, the front office is surely planning what comes next for this team, including the choices that need to be made in the next draft.
Speaking of that draft, Tony Grossi wrote a list of the top-five college quarterbacks for the Browns in the 2027 draft. Sitting at number five is Arch Manning, followed by Jayden Maiava. After that, it’s CJ Carr and then Drew Mestemaker.
At the very top of the list is now Darian Mensah of the Miami Hurricanes.
“Here’s [Tony Grossi’s] top 5 college QBs for the Browns in the 2027 Draft through 7 weeks: 1. Darian Mensah, 2. Drew Mestemaker, 3. CJ Carr, 4. Jayden Maiava, 5. Arch Manning,” ESPN Cleveland posted.

Some people might be surprised to hear that the Browns are already weighing their options for the next draft, but their quarterback situation is still filled with plenty of questions that need answers. Right now, Deshaun Watson has been helping the team secure success, but there is no doubt that he’s not a long-term solution for Cleveland. Due to his expiring contract, his issues and injuries, and his age, a lot of people are ready to move on from him.
To some, that means that Shedeur Sanders should be given the starting role, but that seems less likely, at least right now. Therefore, all eyes are on incoming rookies who could shake things up.
During his time in college, Mensah has made a name for himself as one of the best, most reliable passers in football. Even under pressure and hits, he has the ability to connect with his teammates and make smart plays. That is obviously the exact sort of player the Browns would love to have.
If the Browns are going to put their faith in a young QB, they want someone with a high completion rate, laser accuracy, and presence and calm in the pocket. Luckily for them, Mensah provides all of that.
Although he may be at the top of the list right now, there is a lot of time between now and the draft. A lot of other options may look attractive to the Browns, and they could change their mind.
Right now, this quarterback looks like a perfect fit for Cleveland.
