The NFL trade deadline is coming up on Tuesday, and making a deal would be the biggest way for the Cleveland Browns to improve their personnel. But they also continue to do work behind the scenes in an effort to build the best roster they can.
The Browns have held workouts for unsigned players consistently throughout the season. That includes this week, leading up to their game against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.
According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston, the Browns worked out five players recently, a group that included three safeties and two running backs.
“Browns worked out Ulysses Bentley, Austin Brown, Darren Hall, Jerrick Reed, Elijah Tau-Tolliver,” Wilson posted.

Bentley is a running back who played in college at SMU and Ole Miss. He signed with the Indianapolis Colts last year before rejoining them this season. He spent some time on the Saints’ practice squad before being released last month, so maybe he also provided some useful information during his visit with the Browns.
Brown is a safety who was not selected in the 2026 NFL Draft coming out of Wisconsin. He signed with the Colts this offseason but was let go on cutdown day.
Hall is a safety who played collegiately at San Diego State. He signed with the Atlanta Falcons this spring, joined the Washington Commanders’ practice squad, and was released in October.
Reed is a safety who was selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft out of New Mexico. He has played 23 career games, including with the Tennessee Titans last season. He spent time on the Arizona Cardinals’ practice squad this year.
Tau-Tolliver is a running back from Michigan State who signed with the Baltimore Ravens but was released during final cuts. He had a workout earlier this season with the Miami Dolphins.
The fact that the Browns were focused on these two positions could be a coincidence, or it could signal that they may have some depth concerns at those spots. Rookie safety Emmanuel McNeil-Warren was the only player at either spot listed on this week’s injury report, but he has no designation entering the game.
So, the Browns were likely just doing their due diligence should a need arise during the rest of the season.
