Bulletin board material has been part of football for as long as the game has existed. A stray quote or an offhand comment can find its way into an opposing locker room and give a team an extra edge. Coaches love using those moments to fire up their players, whether the comment was meant as a shot or not. Ahead of Sunday’s game, the Saints found some of that material from Cleveland.
Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reported that a clip of Shedeur Sanders talking about the Saints’ defense made its way through New Orleans’ facility this week.
“This clip of Shedeur Sanders discussing the Saints defense made the rounds in New Orleans’ building. Head coach Kellen Moore referenced it in a meeting, per sources, while players openly discussed it to reporters. However Sanders meant it, New Orleans seemed to have some fun with it,” Fowler wrote.

The clip comes from Sanders’ press conference this week, and how it should be read is open to debate. It can be seen as a subtle jab at the Saints’ defense, or simply as Sanders having some fun in a lighthearted moment with a reporter. Fowler himself acknowledged that the intent is unclear.
In the end, intent may not matter much. Moore saw an opportunity to motivate his team and brought it up in a meeting, and Saints players were happy to talk about it publicly. For a team that is 2-5 and coming off its bye, any extra fuel is welcome.
This is also not the first time a Sanders press conference has made headlines this week. His brother Shilo pushed back on the questions Browns reporters asked him, saying he could do a better job himself. Sanders’ every word gets extra attention, and that will only grow now that he is the starter.
Browns fans have seen how pregame comments can play out. Jared Verse talked plenty about the Steelers before last week’s game, and Cleveland lost 27-6.
Sanders will have a chance to answer on the field.
If the Saints’ defense comes out fired up and forces mistakes, though, the clip will follow Sanders for a while. He is making his first start of the season with Deshaun Watson inactive, and every throw will be picked apart.
Either way, Sunday in the Superdome just got a little more interesting.
