Andre Szmyt missed two kicks in his first NFL game with the Cleveland Browns. In the 20 games since, he has missed two kicks.
By going 8-for-8 on field goal attempts this season, he has now made 22 in a row. The last may have been his most difficult and most important, as a career-long 56-yarder with 10 seconds remaining gave the Browns a 27-24 win against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday night.
With that, the reliable Szmyt is quietly making Browns history, with the fourth-longest streak of consecutive made field goals.
“Andre Szmyt’s current streak of 22 consecutive made field goals is the fourth longest in franchise history. Phil Dawson has the two longest at 29 and 27,” Zac Jackson posted.

Szmyt is now one made field goal away from matching Matt Stover’s third-best streak of 23 in a row, before setting his sights on Dawson’s record. Szmyt last missed a field goal on Oct. 26, 2025, when he failed to connect on a 47-yard attempt against the New England Patriots.
Dawson played 14 seasons for the Browns from 1999 through 2012. It gave them stability at a position that is very difficult to find in the NFL.
Since then, the Browns have used 13 kickers. The man Szmyt beat out in last year’s training camp, Dustin Hopkins, played in 31 games over the past two seasons. But after he made just two-thirds of his field goal attempts in 2024, the Browns were looking for another change.
They thought that they had found their answer in Szmyt, but after he missed an extra point and a field goal in a one-point loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 1 last year, fans wanted the team to move on from him too. The Browns did not, and they have been rewarded for their confidence in a big way.
Szmyt finished last season 24-for-27 on field goals and 25-for-26 on extra points. So far this year, he is also 7-for-7 on extra points, and he ranks third among NFL kickers with 31 points, one behind former Browns kicker Chase McLaughlin of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Evan McPherson of the Bengals.
As if Szmyt’s kicks were not already important enough, adding to this streak creates another level of interest for the fans with every attempt he makes in the coming weeks.
