Austin Barber is one of several rookies hoping to make a splash during his first season with the Cleveland Browns. The young offensive lineman surely has the physical power to make that happen, but what is his mentality like?
In a new interview, it’s very clear that Barber wants to get on the field and rough some people up. That is, of course, nothing but good news for the Browns.
Speaking about a recent preseason game, Barber talked about how fun it was to “bury” his opponent in a brutal takedown.
“It’s fun. That’s why you play the offensive line position: to put people in the dirt. Like I said from the beginning, that’s one of my favorite things to do. It was a cool experience to do that in the home stadium, in front of the home crowd. Even though it was only the preseason, it still gave me the confidence that I can go out there and do it,” Barber said.

Anyone who watched Barber in college isn’t surprised by the work he has done in the preseason and his desire to do even more. He showed strength, power, and versatility during his time with the Florida Gators. He started as the team’s right tackle in 2022, but was then switched to the left side over his last three seasons.
He started the preseason with Cleveland as right tackle but was moved over to right guard. He has looked far more comfortable and productive in that role.
There is obviously a decent amount of competition on this roster, and there are multiple players vying to be right guard. But Barber has shown that he is more than up to the challenge and eager to keep proving himself.
Having a lot of options is a good problem for the Browns to have. The preseason is very different than the regular season, but Barber has certainly impressed so far.
He will attempt to keep it up and continue making an impact on the team.
