Cleveland Browns fans need to pay close attention to the team’s September 20th game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, because quarterback Baker Mayfield will definitely be showing up in a big way.
Speaking on the 4th And South show, Mayfield talked about which game stands out the most to him on this year’s schedule. He showed no hesitation and called out his highly anticipated competition against the Browns in Week 2.
“First home game. Week 2. Cleveland. About that action, boss,” Mayfield said.
He then threw more shade at the Browns, proving that he still holds negative feelings about the team.
“I only played four years in Cleveland. It’s felt like forever. This is home now. It’s time to show them which home is better,” he added.
This won’t be the first time Mayfield has played against the Browns since being traded by the team in 2022. He faced them when he was with the Carolina Panthers, and the Browns came out ahead with a 26-24 win. Mayfield is hoping to get his revenge with the Bucs at the start of this season.
Mayfield’s public comments have reminded people just how burned he felt after being shipped away in order for the Browns to get Deshaun Watson. There is a good chance that Mayfield will now be competing against Watson, who could be Cleveland’s starting QB during Game 2.
Mayfield would love to show the Browns what they gave away and how much happier he is with Tampa Bay. He is about to start a very important season with the Buccaneers because his contract extension talks fell apart in the offseason, and he will be playing in the final season of his contract. If he does well, Tampa Bay could offer him a big payday.
The Browns are surely listening and would love to ruin Mayfield’s plans for revenge.
