Browns Defender Is Living Up To His Draft Position

There were a lot of questions about the Cleveland Browns heading into the 2026 season, including their ability to be competitive on the defensive side of the ball. Not only were the Browns slated to be without Myles Garrett for the first time in nearly a decade, but they also had an entirely new coaching staff.

The Browns’ defense has been a strong point throughout their recent offensive struggles, but there was concern that his absence would cause some frustration and miscommunication. It would be nice to have the reigning Defensive Player of the Year on their roster, of course, but they’re looking just fine without him.

Much to the shock of their fans and others around the league, the Browns are 2-1 through three weeks. The Jacksonville Jaguars hung 34 on them in Week 1, but over the past two weeks, they haven’t allowed more than 20 points to an opponent.

One of the biggest contributors to this success has been second-year player Mason Graham. Graham was the No. 5 overall pick in 2025, and while he had a strong rookie campaign, he was overshadowed by his teammate, Carson Schwesinger, who won Defensive Rookie of the Year.

This year, Graham is getting his moment in the sun, putting up four total sacks in these first three games.

Reporter Camryn Justice talked about this, and, besides calling out these stats, said, “Graham is starting off Year 2 on a strong note, and his teammates are excited to see him shine. He’s “hoopin.”

Garrett was a staple of this team for a long time, and the Browns’ defense was looking for someone to carry the load for them as a leader. It’s early, but if Graham’s play thus far is any indication, the Browns might have found someone they can rely on for the foreseeable future.

Browns fans hope that Graham’s momentum can help carry the team over the next several weeks, as they have a tough divisional rivalry game with the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 4, along with a clash with the Baltimore Ravens in Week 6.

Both of those games could be a test for these young teams, especially for the players who are looking to prove themselves and make a name for themselves.
