Browns Defense Owns NFL Streak That’s Flying Under Radar

Momentum is building in Cleveland for the first time in years as the Browns head into a huge Thursday Night Football matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Both teams sit at 2-1, as do the Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals in what is shaping up to be a much-improved AFC North compared to last season.

Heading into this season, the assumption was that this team would only be able to win by relying on the defense, but Deshaun Watson has been much better than expected and has this offense pulling its weight. Even though he is starting to cook a little bit, the defense is still the heart and soul of this team and will look to continue an incredible streak against Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers on Thursday.

Daryl Ruiter of 92.3 The Fan shared that the Browns defense has not allowed a 300-yard passer for 48 consecutive games, which is the longest streak in the NFL.

Speaking of 300-yard passers, Watson hasn’t thrown for 300 yards since the end of the 2020 season. He is yet to do so in a Browns uniform, and doing so on Thursday would be a great next step in reestablishing himself as a viable starting quarterback in this league.

Of course, winning is most important, which is something the Browns haven’t done very often against the Steelers over the past few decades. Another recent trend suggests that tide might be turning as well because the Browns have beaten the Steelers in Cleveland four years in a row and will look to make it a fifth consecutive win on Thursday.

The last QB to put up 300 yards on the Browns was surprisingly Gardner Minshew of the Indianapolis Colts nearly three years ago. Hopefully, Rodgers isn’t able to reach that number on Thursday, and the Browns can keep a couple of streaks intact.
