It has been quite a week for Cleveland Browns tight end Carsen Ryan. He was waived on Monday, re-signed to the practice squad on Wednesday, and is ready to get back on the field on Sunday.
That is the life of a seventh-round pick in the NFL Draft. But Ryan will be ready to contribute when Cleveland takes on the Pittsburgh Steelers at Acrisure Stadium.
The Browns announced that they have elevated the familiar rookie ahead of the Steelers game.
“We’ve elevated TE Carsen Ryan,” the Browns posted.

Ryan was waived to make room for quarterback Dillon Gabriel. It was a difficult move, as it gives Cleveland four QBs on the 53-man roster, which is unusual around the NFL.
Shedeur Sanders will remain the backup to Deshaun Watson on Sunday. The Browns have not announced whether Gabriel or rookie sixth-round pick Taylen Green will be the emergency quarterback.
As for Ryan, he had to clear waivers before being brought back to the practice squad. He has played just two offensive snaps in his first six appearances, with 73 on special teams.
Ryan was inactive for Cleveland’s Week 5 game against the New York Jets with a calf injury. That 17-12 loss is the Browns’ only defeat since Week 1.
Cleveland could be in the market for a tight end as the NFL trading deadline approaches. Harold Fannin Jr. and Blake Whiteheart are the only other tight ends on the roster, which could have the Browns looking at Philadelphia Eagles veteran Dallas Goedert.
Also on Saturday, the Browns announced that right tackle Tytus Howard cleared concussion protocol and will be available to face the Steelers. He left the 27-24 Week 7 win against the Tennessee Titans in the third quarter.
Cornerback Myles Harden and special teamer Daniel Thomas are listed as questionable. They were limited participants in practice this week and are likely to be available on Sunday.
Cleveland will be trying to end a 22-game regular-season losing streak when visiting Pittsburgh, and it looks like it will be at full strength for that attempt.
