Toughness is one of the most overused words in football, but sometimes a player gives it real meaning. Playing through pain is part of life in the NFL, and suiting up while hurt is very different from dominating while hurt. Fans remember the players who do the second long after a season ends. Carson Schwesinger became one of those players for Browns fans on Sunday.
Ken Carman and Anthony Lima of 92.3 The Fan talked about what they saw from the linebacker during the week.
‘What a fun player to root for,’ Lima said.

Banged up is an accurate description of Schwesinger’s week. He left MetLife Stadium in a walking boot on his right foot after the loss to the New York Jets, missed practice Wednesday and Thursday with an ankle injury and was listed as questionable after a limited session Friday.
Few expected him to look like himself against the Baltimore Ravens. Instead, he led the team with 13 tackles and made the play that turned the game.
With Cleveland trailing 10-3 in the 4th quarter, Schwesinger forced a Derrick Henry fumble that Tyson Campbell recovered. The Browns turned it into Audric Estime’s 2-yard touchdown run, and Andre Szmyt’s field goal as time expired finished the comeback.
His impact went beyond that one snap. The Browns allowed only 123 yards over the final 3 quarters, and Henry finished with 58 yards on 17 carries. With Mason Graham and Mike Hall Jr. out, Schwesinger’s ability to fill gaps and chase down ball carriers kept the run defense intact.
The last 2 weeks have been the best stretch of his young career. Against the Jets and Ravens, he totaled 21 tackles, a sack and 2 forced fumbles. He earned a game ball from Todd Monken after Sunday’s win, and Jared Verse called him the most reliable person he knows.
He began as a walk-on at UCLA before becoming one of the top linebackers in the country, and the Browns made him the first pick of the 2nd round in 2025. Players with that background tend to play with an edge.
Cleveland visits the Tennessee Titans on Sunday trying to stay in 1st place in the AFC North. Whether Schwesinger is fully healthy or playing through pain again, he has shown the Browns what they have in the middle of their defense, and contenders are built around players like that.
