Winning streaks in the NFL rarely end in dramatic fashion. More often, they slip away in the kind of ugly, low-scoring game where nothing comes easy and one possession decides everything. Teams that live on the edge every week eventually find themselves on the wrong side of the margin.
That moment arrived for the Browns on Sunday, as their 3-game winning streak came to an end with a 17-12 loss to the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium.

Fans had plenty of reactions to the loss.
“So it turns out the Browns is the Browns after all.. that was a HORRIBLE game. Monken does not have these guys ready to play. Absolute embarrassment,” one fan wrote.
“Out coached by Aaron Glenn….YIKES!!!” another fan said.
“Special teams and dropped passes. That’s it,” another fan commented.
“The offensive line is pathetic. The free agents, Howard, Jenkins and Johnson have been terrible all year. Guess there was a reason they were available,” one fan said.
Cleveland had the lead late. Trailing 10-6 after the Jets opened the 4th quarter with a 54-yard field goal, Deshaun Watson found Denzel Boston deep down the left side for a 29-yard touchdown with 6:15 remaining. The try afterward came up empty, leaving the Browns ahead 12-10.
New York answered. Braelon Allen broke free for a 22-yard touchdown run with 3:01 left, and the Browns could not mount another comeback, snapping Watson’s run of 3 straight game-winning drives.
The offense never found its footing in the rain. Watson completed 15 of 33 passes for 155 yards, and Cleveland finished with just 197 total yards and 3.0 yards per play. The Browns converted only 4 of 16 3rd downs and came up empty on both of their 4th-down attempts.
Protection was the biggest problem. Cleveland allowed 8 sacks, 7 of them on Watson, undoing much of the progress he had made getting the ball out quickly over the past few weeks.
Losing KC Concepcion to a head injury in the 1st half made matters worse. With the rookie sidelined after a hit from Minkah Fitzpatrick, Isaiah Bond led the team with 74 receiving yards, while Boston added 46 and the touchdown.
The running game struggled again. Quinshon Judkins managed 44 yards on 14 carries, and Watson was the most effective runner on the roster with 40 yards on 6 attempts.
The defense did enough to give Cleveland a chance. Quincy Williams forced 3 fumbles, Carson Schwesinger added a sack and a forced fumble of his own, and the Browns brought Geno Smith down 4 times. Still, the Jets ran for 134 yards, with Allen accounting for 116 on 24 carries, and Garrett Wilson finished with 7 catches for 104 yards and a touchdown.
One positive was the discipline. After entering the week as the most penalized team in the league, the Browns were flagged just 6 times for 30 yards, while the Jets were hit with 10 penalties for 102 yards.
The loss drops Cleveland to 3-2 and adds fuel to the doubts about how sustainable this start was. Now the Browns turn to Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens on October 18, a division showdown that suddenly carries even more weight. Fixing the protection and getting Concepcion back would go a long way toward making sure one bad afternoon in New Jersey does not turn into a slide.
