The Cleveland Browns are currently picking up the pieces after enduring their yearly shellacking in Pittsburgh at the hands of the Steelers, but there is still plenty of football left to be played. Cleveland is still in the mix at 5-3, but the Browns do have some legitimate questions at quarterback following last week’s loss.
Deshaun Watson is in the concussion protocol and has potentially left the door open for Shedeur Sanders to make his first start of the season if Watson is unable to go on Sunday against the New Orleans Saints. To further complicate matters, the trade deadline is next week and the Browns have four quarterbacks, which is why one insider still believes a trade is on the table.
ESPN’s Tony Grossi said on Thursday’s episode of The Really Big Show that a Sanders trade could still be on the table.
“I think if they got an offer for Shedeur, they would seriously consider it because they have to subtract a quarterback. It’s a coin flip between Gabriel and Shedeur. I think if they got an acceptable deal, and it ain’t much. if you can get a fifth, you can reclaim what you gave up,” Grossi said.

Trade rumors really started to heat up a couple of weeks ago when Dillon Gabriel’s practice window opened up, but they have since quieted down since reports surfaced that both Gabriel and Sanders weren’t going anywhere. Given the fact that Watson has played quite well and is winning games, there is no obvious trade candidate on the roster now.
Gabriel would have made the most sense, but nobody has seen him play in about a year, so there’s no way to gauge what his value is or if he has improved. Sanders’ trade rumors picked up a ton of steam when he hired an agent a few weeks ago, but clearly nothing was imminent. He could have just been protecting himself or getting out ahead of things before the offseason, when he could be more likely to be traded.
If the Browns do intend on moving Sanders, Sunday’s game against the Saints would be a great way for him to audition for 31 other teams. Quarterbacks have gone down in Baltimore, New York, Indianapolis, Arizona, Seattle, and a handful of other places, so there is no question that somebody would be interested in the second-year gunslinger.
