Insider Has Strong Belief About Dillon Gabriel’s Future

The battle to be the Cleveland Browns’ starting quarterback continues, and it sounds like it’s still a two-man race between Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders. However, Dillon Gabriel remains a part of the team, although his role with the franchise is still up in the air.

While speaking to 92.3 The Fan, Zac Jackson discussed Gabriel and his future with the Browns. Not only did Jackson confirm that Gabriel won’t be a starter for the Browns, but he also said the young QB won’t be traded.

“I don’t think he’s gonna be out of here. If you’re watching every throw and every drill…the one thing that you’ve noticed is that Dillon Gabriel is getting work with the (No.) 2s. That’s what he is; he’s a backup quarterback. They are in no position to give Dillon Gabriel away. That was an organizational pick. That was not Kevin Stefanski’s pick,” Jackson said.

It’s clear to Jackson and other analysts that Gabriel’s role within the Browns’ organization is as a backup quarterback, at best. Any chance of him starting for Cleveland is very slim.

People have assumed that for a long time, which has led to rumors of Gabriel potentially being traded. However, Jackson doesn’t see that happening either. Unless the Browns are offered a deal they can’t refuse, they will probably hold onto Gabriel. That’s because there are some in the front office who view him as a formidable backup for years to come. To them, he is playing the exact role they drafted him for.

Gabriel has likely made peace with the idea of playing a supporting role for this team. The problem is that the quarterback room can only get so crowded. There may come a time when the Browns have to decide if they want to hang onto Gabriel or move him for a better backup player.

Gabriel isn’t talked about like Watson and Sanders are, but that doesn’t mean he’s on the trading block. The rumors about him leaving Cleveland are premature, at least for now.
