Insider Predicts Timeline For Browns’ QB Decision

Cleveland’s ongoing quarterback battle keeps drawing attention from every corner of national media, and ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler became the latest voice to weigh in during a recent SportsCenter segment alongside Hannah Storm and Herm Edwards. Fowler addressed the current state of the competition between Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders and believes the team will soon name a starter.

Watson’s clean, efficient showing in Cleveland’s preseason opener against Chicago, where he completed 11 of 15 passes for 126 yards without turning the ball over on his own accord, appears to have shifted outside perception meaningfully in his favor. Fowler’s read here mirrors comments Ian Rapoport made just days earlier, when he pointed to Watson’s veteran command of the Browns’ offensive system as the key factor separating the two quarterbacks.

Sanders is not without momentum heading into this Saturday’s game.  Former NFL quarterback David Carr recently praised his development after the Chicago game, specifically highlighting improved pocket presence and a willingness to step up into pressure rather than escaping the pocket prematurely, a change Carr described as a significant leap from his rookie season.

With Todd Monken and his staff still working out exactly how much the starting offensive line will play against Buffalo, and both quarterbacks expected to see first-team reps during Thursday’s joint practice, this stretch of the calendar now carries the weight of potentially being the last meaningful evaluation window before Cleveland settles on an answer.
