The Cleveland Browns received perhaps the harshest criticism of any team after their Week 1 performance. Things did not go well during their game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, and it feels like everyone noticed. Pat McAfee was so disappointed in the Browns that he listed them as No. 1 in his ranking of the “shite division.”
On his show, he talked about how poorly they performed during their first game, and noted how much they are hoping to get better and become “promoted” out of this division soon.
“Number one team, congratulations, in the lead of the shite division, Cleveland Browns. Congratulations to the Cleveland Browns for finding themselves in the shite division. And although this is the first expansion to the shite division, they know what it’s like to be here. They are looking to get promoted out of here, not looking for relegation. Obviously, it did not go swimmingly down there in Jacksonville,” McAfee said.

Of course, McAfee spoke about Deshaun Watson and how little he has contributed to the team since being signed several years ago. Sure enough, Watson’s work during Week 1 has been the topic of many conversations. Things looked so rocky for the team that some people are already asking if and when he’ll be replaced by Shedeur Sanders as Cleveland’s starting QB.
However, the problems go beyond Watson. Even if he lost his starting quarterback position next week, the team would probably still struggle in some ways. It’s very clear that head coach Todd Monken has his work cut out for him and is surely reviewing a lot of tape right now, making plans to improve in the upcoming games.
The Browns won’t be the only team struggling this year, but they may receive more attention than others. This is supposed to be the season when they start to turn things around and prove that they are on the right path, even if it’s the beginning of that path.
Week 1 didn’t show any of that, which is why fans and analysts are concerned.
