The Myles Garrett-Jared Verse trade was one of the biggest in recent NFL history, and people are still talking about the blockbuster move and how it could affect both the Los Angeles Rams and Cleveland Browns.
The Rams may have ended up with the bigger name, but the loss of Verse greatly hurt them. In a recent interview, Trent McDuffie spoke about the team’s reaction to losing their young defensive star.
Although Los Angeles was receiving the reigning Defensive Player of the Year and a future Hall of Famer, they were still shocked and disappointed to say goodbye to Verse.
“I remember when Myles Garrett got traded that day, and then the news broke. Sean McVay told the team, and we went into our DB meeting, and we didn’t even meet. We just talked for an hour straight. Coach was just like, ‘I’m gonna open the floor. Just get your feelings out.’ Obviously, they lost Jared Verse. Jared Verse was a huge part. He was loved. I know that hurt a lot of guys when they traded him. Every single guy went up to Jared Verse, shook his hand, gave him some words of encouragement. Guys weren’t even excited knowing you have Myles Garrett on the team. I heard the news, I started smiling. I looked around, I was like, ‘Oh.’ Everyone was like, ‘Woah, hold on. J-Verse? You’re gonna let him go?’ I was] like, that’s special. There’s something here about just how tight-knit this group is,” McDuffie said.

McDuffie’s comment proves that Verse is a special player, someone who gets along with others and brings them together.
That, of course, is excellent news for the Browns. They are gaining a player who held such a place in the Rams’ roster that some of LA’s players didn’t seem excited to get Garrett, who could help them return to the Super Bowl. That says a lot about the sort of man Verse is.
When Verse was traded to Cleveland, a lot of analysts said he could be a huge part of the Browns for years to come. He has already shown leadership, and it’s obvious that he has a personality and attitude that galvanizes the men he plays with.
He could do a lot for the Browns’ win record, but also their chemistry and culture.
