The Cleveland Browns got crushed again on Saturday, falling 31-7 at the hands of the Buffalo Bills to drop to 0-2 in the preseason. More importantly, the offense struggled again and both Shedeur Sanders and Deshaun Watson threw interceptions.
Sanders showed some good signs and was mostly good aside from the interception. He threw the team’s only touchdown of the day and completed nine of his 11 passes, which is why Robert Griffin III is one of many who believe the starting quarterback decision should be even easier now.
RGIII took to X after the game to proclaim that Sanders should be the starter. He believes that after everything that took place, including the fans loudly rejecting Watson, the decision is obvious.
“As an organization, there is no way Cleveland can name anyone but Shedeur Sanders the starting quarterback if they want the support of the city,” said Griffin.

Watson has had the inside track to the starting job for months and at times, it has seemed like it doesn’t even matter how well or how poorly he plays because ownership and the front office were pushing to start him no matter what. Even if that was the case, after Saturday, it’s clear as day that starting him could be a massive mistake.
Between how awful he was in the game (5-for-12 for 47 yards and an interception), the fans loudly booing him, and his tone-deaf response to the boos after the game, this team might be better off starting Sanders for 17 games even if he isn’t the obvious better option at the moment. These fans have been through enough, and forcing them to endure another season of Watson could cause irreparable damage to the relationship between the team and the fans.
The idea of turning back to Watson was hard to fathom even six months ago. Now that it’s becoming clear that he still isn’t able to be the guy he used to be, this team really has nothing to gain from starting him at this point unless he can miraculously turn back the clock.
