At this point, Shedeur Sanders could come out ahead of Deshaun Watson and be the Cleveland Browns’ starting quarterback in the new season. However, he could also miss out on that chance, leaving his future with the team up in the air.
On 92.3 The Fan, Ken Carman talked about Sanders and how the Browns are treating him. He noted that a lot of the arguing and negative headlines currently swirling around the team don’t concern Sanders.
Carman feels that Sanders shouldn’t be punished for the problems in Cleveland and should only be traded if the front office firmly believes he doesn’t have a future with the team.
“Any of the arguments, it doesn’t seem to revolve, at all, around him. If it doesn’t revolve around him, why are we yelling at him over this? There’s no reason for me to move on from him other than if you really don’t believe he’s ever going to start for you. If that’s the case, make the prudent decision to move on from him. But if you believe he could certainly start Week 2, 3, 4, then we’re not moving on,” Carman said.

Sanders has received mostly positive responses from his time at training camp. The numbers have shown that he is holding his own, although he still has room for improvement. He is clearly dedicated to proving his worth and earning his spot as the team’s starting QB.
He may not get that chance, however. If the Browns are certain that he will never be QB1, they would be smart to cut ties with him so they can move on, find someone who fits into their plans, and give him a chance to start another chapter with a different team.
There have been many complaints about the Browns, but Sanders has been keeping his head down and attempting to improve. Fans have been nervous and upset about a number of things, while waiting to see what Sanders can do in 2026.
The Browns will have to figure out their plans. If those plans indicate that Sanders will never be a starter, they should have serious and tough discussions about what to do with him.
As the preseason begins, it is time to really decide the path ahead for the team and their young quarterback.
