If things don’t go well once again, Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers could be the last time Deshaun Watson sees the field not only for the Cleveland Browns, but for any NFL team at all. It’s clear what the Browns are trying to do, but they are facing an all-time negative reaction from the fans in Week 3 if they start Watson in Cleveland, if the team is 0-2 after he once again made disparaging comments against the media and rejected any accountability for his poor play.
Browns fans are having a tough time watching Watson while fans of 31 other fan bases are pointing and laughing at this situation as the Browns are forced to sleep in the bed they made for themselves. Investing $230 million in someone with questionable health and questionable character has a lot of NFL fans believing the Browns deserve this pain, but it’s unfortunate for all of the great players who have come and gone in Cleveland, such as Joe Haden.
During a recent episode of Deebo & Joe, Haden spoke about how he is fed up with Watson and this whole situation. He is dying to see some strong production out of the QB spot for once, just like every other Browns fan.
“This doesn’t make me feel good to say things like this about Deshaun Watson and the things that he says that sound crazy. You say things sometimes that are so wild, that I’m like, why would you say that? The only thing I want is competent quarterback play. When you’re making this type of money, you have to be able to read the room,” said Haden.

He’s absolutely right, and Watson’s comments after all he has put this fan base through are infuriating to listen to. Nobody is expecting the 400 yards and five touchdowns that he thinks is expected of him. He hasn’t even thrown for 300 yards in a Browns uniform. He has one three-TD game. He has lost six starts in a row. He is on a $230 million contract and has made 20 starts since 2022. Yet, he still doesn’t understand why he is getting so much backlash?
Haden’s frustrations echo the sentiments of all Browns fans. If Watson doesn’t play well on Sunday against Tampa, it has to be Shedeur Sanders time in Week 3. Even if he flops too, the Browns have to know what they have in him ahead of the 2027 draft.
Perhaps Watson has enough fight in him to surprise everyone on Sunday. Maybe he doesn’t. Either way, most Browns fans, including Haden, are just counting the days for this nightmare to end.
