The Cleveland Browns made a major move earlier this week when they added quarterback Dillon Gabriel to the active roster after a stint on injured reserve. Now, heading into their Week 8 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, they have made some changes to their practice squad.
The Browns announced three roster moves on Tuesday, signing defensive end Nadame Tucker and releasing running back Jaret Patterson and safety John Saunders.
“We’ve have signed DE Nadame Tucker to the practice squad and released RB Jaret Patterson and S John Saunders from the practice squad,” the Browns posted.

Tucker is rejoining the Browns after being let go from the practice squad just last week. A rookie who was originally signed by the Los Angeles Chargers as an undrafted free agent, he had been with Cleveland since early September.
Patterson signed with the Browns on Oct. 7 while the team was dealing with multiple injuries in its backfield. A veteran of 27 NFL games with the Washington franchise and the Chargers, he was not made active by Cleveland.
Running back Dylan Sampson returned from injured reserve to play in last week’s game against the Tennessee Titans, and Quinshon Judkins was available after missing one contest. With Jaleel McLaughlin and Audric Estime also on hand, the Browns no longer have an immediate need for Patterson.
Saunders joined the Browns last week, along with offensive tackle Andrew Coker and punter Wes Pahl. Signed as an undrafted free agent by the Miami Dolphins in 2025, Saunders also spent time on the practice squads of the New England Patriots and New York Jets.
In order to make room for Gabriel, the Browns waived rookie tight end Carsen Ryan on Monday. It was thought that they would look to sign the seventh-round pick to the practice squad, but that transaction has not taken place.
Reinstating Gabriel means the Browns now have four quarterbacks on the 53-man roster, which is unusual in the NFL. Cleveland is trying to avoid exposing developmental QB Taylen Green to waivers, which would be necessary to get him onto the practice squad.
With the NFL trade deadline approaching, fans can expect to see some more roster moves by the Browns in the next two weeks.
