Jared Verse and his Cleveland Browns have their biggest game in years on Sunday as they visit the Pittsburgh Steelers and try to finally end that pesky 22-game losing streak at their AFC North rivals. Verse hasn’t been around for any of those losses, so he likely doesn’t feel the same pressure that some of his teammates do and has spent the week making sure everybody knows that.
Verse began the week missing practice with some knee inflammation, but he doesn’t appear to be in any danger of missing Sunday’s huge game. It would be a perfect setting for Verse to have his breakout performance and get his first few sacks in a Browns uniform.
If he wants to sign the projected extension MLFootball shared on Friday, he’s going to need to get it going in the sack department. MLFootball projected Verse to receive a four-year, $160 million deal this offseason when he is first eligible.
“PROJECTION: #Browns star pass rusher Jared Verse is projected to sign a 4-year, $160 MILLION contract extension when eligible this offseason. That would be an average annual value of $40 MILLION per year. Verse will become one of the highest-paid pass rushers in #NFL history,” MLFootball said.

Verse has been a leader since the first day he walked into the facility and even though he doesn’t have a sack yet, he has done a great job filling an impossibly large pair of shoes with Myles Garrett gone. Nobody expects him to replace Garrett on his own, but his teammates are helping to make this transition easy for him by getting after the quarterback on their own.
As long as Verse stays healthy and keeps fighting, the sacks will come, and that contract will be waiting for him. He is one of the most intriguing young pass rushers in the NFL and Browns fans shouldn’t have a shred of doubt about whether or not a contract like this would be a good investment.
However, this is all a conversation for another day, and the most important thing right now is beating Pittsburgh. This suffering has gone on long enough and perhaps Verse can be a good luck charm and start his Browns tenure 1-0 in Pittsburgh.
