Denzel Boston quickly became the focal point of the Cleveland Browns offense, even though he was just a rookie wide receiver taken in the second round of the 2026 NFL Draft. After standing out throughout the spring and into training camp, it should not have been a surprise when he caught a long touchdown pass in his debut.
Boston kept on making big plays, so much so that he was leading the league in yards per reception. But with that kind of production comes much more attention, and defenses decided they were not going to let Boston do that to them.
So, the rest of the Browns offense has been forced to catch up, which they have. KC Concepcion and Harold Fannin Jr. were standouts last Sunday in a 27-24 win against the Tennessee Titans, which may be enough to swing the pendulum back toward Boston.
ESPN analyst Seth Walder is predicting that Boston will have a big game this Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers, coming off three less productive outings.
“Browns WR Denzel Boston will record 80-plus receiving yards. It has been a down couple of weeks for Boston, but I’m a believer and think he bounces back. Steelers CB Jamel Dean is allowing 1.5 yards per coverage snap, well above average for an outside corner,” Walder wrote.
Perhaps bothered by a lingering foot injury, Boston has posted just seven receptions for 88 yards in his past three games. That was after he had 13 catches for 284 yards in his first four games.
That early breakout included seven catches for 89 yards in Week 4, helping Cleveland to a 27-24 victory against Pittsburgh. In that game, Dean had one tackle and one pass defended, playing just 16 defensive snaps. He injured his ankle in the second quarter and did not return.
Dean sat out the following two games, and he came back with six passes defended and an interception in Week 6 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Last week, he posted a season-high seven tackles against the New Orleans Saints in Paris.
So, Boston could be facing a more difficult test than in the first meeting, and he will have to rise to the challenge if Cleveland is going to win a regular-season game at Pittsburgh for the first time since 2003.
