Roster decisions at quarterback usually follow familiar logic. Teams keep 2 or 3 passers, use the remaining spots on positions that play every week, and let the extra quarterbacks go before they become a distraction. When a team is carrying more than usual, everyone assumes a move is coming. One local voice thinks the Browns may not make one.
Daryl Ruiter joined Andy Baskin and Jeff Phelps on 92.3 The Fan and predicted that the Browns will keep all four quarterbacks when a roster move must be made with Dillon Gabriel.
“I think Andrew Berry calls everyone’s bluff and keeps all four on the active roster,” Ruiter said.

The deadline is close. Dillon Gabriel was designated to return from injured reserve on October 6, and the Browns have until Tuesday, October 27, to add him to the 53-man roster. If they do not, he will stay on injured reserve for the rest of the season.
There is logic to it. Watson is in the final year of his contract and has a long injury history, so depth at the position has value. Sanders started 7 games as a rookie, Gabriel was a 3rd-round pick in 2025 and has practiced fully since his return, and Green is a 6th-round rookie the Browns clearly do not want to expose to waivers.
Keeping all 4 would also give the coaching staff more time to evaluate the group before deciding on the future. With 2 first-round picks in the 2027 draft, the Browns could have plenty of options at quarterback next spring.
The cost is roster flexibility. Cleveland has injuries at running back, defensive tackle, linebacker and safety, and activating Gabriel would require cutting or moving someone else. Every spot tied up at quarterback is one that cannot help a thin roster on Sundays.
The trade deadline makes the decision even more interesting. If Berry keeps all 4 past Tuesday, he will still have until November 10 to field calls on Sanders or Gabriel.
Calling everyone’s bluff would be an unusual move, but this front office has never been afraid to take an unconventional approach. The answer will come 2 days after the Browns’ game in Tennessee, and it could shape the quarterback room well beyond this season.
