The Cleveland Browns may be turning a corner and could be far more competitive, even without Myles Garrett. However, fans might not witness the team’s next level of success for a few years. In a new piece for PFF, Gordon McGuinness gave a reason for Browns fans to be optimistic.
He said that it’s not the present they should be focused on, but the future.
“Cleveland Browns: Building for the future,” McGuinness wrote. “When looking for optimism with the Browns, it’s probably fair to look more to the future. While Verse might never reach Garrett’s peak, there’s a reasonable chance he will be the more impactful player by the time this roster is in a position to compete. It was an impressive draft class for Cleveland, which landed four of the top 35 players on the final PFF predictive draft board.”
Like all good things, the Browns’ promise may not arrive right away, and people need to strap in for a few years of growing pains. Yet, it’s important to remember that they could be developing, even if they don’t show it right away.
They were seemingly successful in the latest draft, and the one last year too. But up-and-coming rookies don’t always turn into stars overnight, and sometimes it takes several years for them to fully grow into their potential.
Jared Verse has received a lot of buzz and has already done impressive things during his first two years with the Los Angeles Rams. But his skills could evolve even more in Cleveland. Still, it may not happen instantly.
So far in the preseason, Browns fans have seen flashes of promise, especially from the younger players and the new rookies. That shows that something competitive and strong is deep in the team’s core. Now it’s up to Todd Monken and his staff to nurture and develop it correctly.
Browns followers would love to see their team become a Super Bowl contender in 2026, but that may not be possible. Instead, Cleveland might be assembling and putting together a roadmap for the future.
It might take time to get where they are going, but there is some optimism that they are on the right path.
