Browns Defender Doesn’t See Himself As “Underrated”

Even though the Cleveland Browns were going nowhere fast last season, GM Andrew Berry made a nice sneaky move in trading Greg Newsome II for Tyson Campbell, who is now locked in as a core member of this secondary for years to come. He fit in swimmingly as the No. 2 corner opposite Denzel Ward and it’s going to be fun to see what this CB tandem can do in their first full season together.

Campbell is still just 26 years old and had his first career pick-six and forced two fumbles last year. There was a lot to love about his 12 games with the Browns last year and GM Andrew Berry took notice as well.

Berry recently called Campbell one of the best cover corners in the NFL and the most underrated on the Browns roster. While speaking with the media on Friday, Campbell was asked if he agrees in a clip shared by Cleveland.com’s Ashley Bastock, and the word underrated is not the way he’d describe himself.

“That’s up to everybody else. I always consider myself the best and try to operate that way. I just try to focus on my job and be the best that I can be,” said Campbell.

That’s the confidence you need to be a great corner in the NFL. He signed a massive four-year, $76.5 million deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars two off-seasons ago and is now under team control through 2028, and while the Jags may have been disappointed enough to trade him, it clearly hasn’t affected him in the slightest.

With Denzel Ward recently signing a contract extension of his own, the core of the secondary is all locked up for the next few years. With so many other moving parts in this organization, it’s nice to have some continuity with an important position group.

League-wide, Campbell is still a bit of an unknown and was largely written off after signing his big contract and getting injured for what was a disappointing Jags team in 2024. He may not see himself as underrated because he knows how great he is, but many do still see him that way and hopefully he can make himself a bit more of a household name with a big 2026.
