Browns Lead Titans 17-14 At Halftime

Slow starts have become familiar for the Browns this season. They have fallen behind early again and again, only to find their footing once the offense settles in and the defense adjusts. That pattern showed up again in Nashville on Sunday, but this time the comeback did not have to wait until the 4th quarter. The Browns lead the Tennessee Titans 17-14 at halftime.

Tennessee got off to a quick start. Tony Pollard broke a 36-yard touchdown run on the opening drive and added a 10-yard score later in the 1st quarter, putting the Titans ahead 14-0 with 8:35 left in the period.

Cleveland answered with 17 straight points. Quinshon Judkins, back after missing last week with an ankle injury, scored on runs of 5 and 6 yards, and the 2nd one tied the game with 2:17 left in the half. Andre Szmyt then hit a 28-yard field goal as time expired.

KC Concepcion has been the story so far. The rookie was limited most of the week with calf and quad injuries, but he already has 8 catches for 129 yards. It is the first 100-yard game of his career, and he got there before halftime.

Deshaun Watson has been sharp, completing 17 of 22 passes for 202 yards. He threw an interception, but he has not been sacked after taking 13 sacks over the previous 2 games.

The defense has tightened up since Pollard’s early runs. Cam Ward has completed 7 of 11 passes for just 58 yards, and Denzel Ward, who was questionable with a hand injury, intercepted him. Adin Huntington added a sack, and the Titans failed on their only 4th-down attempt.

The Browns have outgained Tennessee 277-156 and averaged 7.5 yards per play. The only real problem has been turnovers, with an interception and a lost fumble keeping the Titans in the game.

A 3-point lead leaves little room for error, and slowing Pollard will be the priority in the 2nd half. If the Browns hold on, they will be 5-2 heading into next week’s rematch in Pittsburgh.
