Todd Monken has a lot to prove during his first year as the Cleveland Browns’ head coach. Not only does he have to show the fans that he knows how to lead the team, including a bunch of new players, but he also has to secure more victories.
He will be doing that with no prior head coaching experience. When he was hired, some fans questioned the choice because of this lack of experience, but Monken has proven himself to many people. Browns legend Brian Brennan talked about the impression Monken has made on him.
Like others, Brennan appreciates Monken’s “no-nonsense” attitude, and he’s excited to see what’s ahead for the coach and his squad.
“I was a little suspect [of Todd Monken]. He’s been around a long time without having the head job, but the more I’ve heard him talk to the team and talk to the fans and the way he’s conducting himself with the team, I’m excited for him. He’s a no-nonsense individual. When I played for Marty Schottenheimer, Marty was tough. He was very disciplined. As a player, you knew where you stood. If you weren’t making plays during practice, you probably weren’t going to be on the field much during game day. I feel like Todd has some of that in him, that he’s letting the players know where they stand. I think he’s doing a great job. I’m excited for the future of this team,” Brian Brennan said.
One of the first things that people noticed about Monken is that he refuses to pull any punches and hold back what he’s thinking. Unlike Kevin Stefanski before him, Monken is comfortable speaking at length and sharing his feelings.
He isn’t cruel about his opinions, and he obviously has a lot of faith in his players, but Monken lets people know where he stands. This is good news for the players, because they are constantly aware of how well they are performing.
It’ll be interesting to see how Monken handles himself during the regular season. So far, people like his personality and ability to share opinions.
He is someone who can hold really intriguing, honest, eye-opening post-game press conferences. Monken has the right attitude, but that doesn’t mean he’ll bring the Browns more wins in 2026.
People like what they see from him, but they are eager to witness victory.
