The Cleveland Browns offseason is in full swing which means we are in for months of roster speculation.
Not exactly what fans hoped for in mid-January, but it is what it is.
Here are the Browns Nation news and notes for Wednesday, January 12, 2022.
1. John Johnson III’s Offseason Wish List
John Johnson III had an interesting offseason request.
He talked about having a better relationship with the training staff next season.
“I think our relationship with the training staff could be a whole lot better.”
This begs the question of what the players’ relationships with the training staff looked like this season amid a lot of injuries.
Those injuries could have many causes, but it is a curious request from JJ3.
He also threw in an extra request for yoga which does not seem unreasonable to maintain player agility.
This was his first season with the Browns after coming over from the Los Angeles Rams.
It would be interesting to know how he compares the Browns and Rams training staffs.
John Johnson III says he would love a yoga instructor in the building for the Browns, along with other things in regards to training: "I think our relationship with the training staff could be a whole lot better…" #Browns

2. Wide Receiver Upgrade Needed
One position the Browns need to boost in the offseason either through trade or free agency is wide receiver.
Browns’ wide receivers definitely underperformed this season evidenced by the Pro Football Focus ratings.
All received lower half grades.
Jarvis Landry was the highest-ranked among the Browns at 74th out of 133.
Per @PFF #Browns WR room grades
Higgins: 121st out of 133
Schwartz: 112th out of 133
DPJ: 80th out of 133
Jarvis: 74th out of 133That needs to be the biggest need in FA and the draft.. no question about it.

3. Berry Is Backing Baker Right Now
We have all heard Coach Stefanski and GM Berry publicly state that Baker Mayfield is the Browns quarterback for 2022.
Here is what we know for a fact.
Mayfield is under contract with a fifth-year option.
There are no extension talks underway.
Mayfield is getting shoulder surgery on January 19.
Though Mayfield could very well be the quarterback in 2022, it would be odd to hear anything but what they are saying just days into the offseason.
The #Browns have said all the right things in the event Baker is their QB. I also don’t take anything they’ve said as a lock he will be. No org is going to say at the end of season interviews “Yes, we’re looking to move on from Baker” when theres no replacement set up yet.

#Browns GM Andrew Berry on whether he could consider other QB options: "My job is the assemble the best team possible and make sure that we're in a position to compete, consistently for the division, to be in the playoffs and, ultimately, win a championship."

Berry knows what his job is, and he laid it out eloquently by saying:
“My job is the assemble the best team possible and make sure that we’re in a position to compete, consistently for the division, to be in the playoffs and, ultimately, win a championship.”
This will take time so we need to watch and wait.
