The Cleveland Browns returned to the national spotlight last week, and a lot of people were watching. Writing for NBC Sports, Mike Florio pointed out that the Browns-Steelers game on Amazon Prime brought in a massive number: 16.59 million viewers.
According to the streaming giant, that’s the best Thursday night game since they started broadcasting the NFL back in 2022.
“The Week 4 Thursday night game on Prime Video averaged 16.59 million viewers. The number, per Amazon, made it the most-watched Week 4 Thursday night game since Prime Video assumed the package in 2022,” Florio wrote.
A Browns-Steelers game is always going to get attention, especially when it’s played in Cleveland. But 16.59 million surpassed what most people had in mind for the match, and it brought plenty of exposure to the Browns right when they want it the most.
The Browns have been on a roll lately, so they are surely happy to hear that so many people tuned in to watch them sneak by the Steelers. Perhaps some of those viewers will continue to watch the Browns in the weeks ahead, especially if they keep winning.
There is some minor controversy about the Amazon numbers, however. Florio pointed out that some analysts feel the company is bumping up their stats because it is autoplaying the game for anyone who visits its Prime page during the broadcast. So, it’s not clear how many people elected to watch this game and how many had it forced on them, at least to start.
Regardless, there is no doubt that a lot of fans were very interested in this showdown. The Browns don’t get a lot of nationally broadcast games, but that may not be the case next year if they continue to play well in 2026.
If they end the season with a winning record, the NFL could consider putting a fair share of their matches on the national broadcast schedule next year. This was the Browns’ last national primetime game for the 2026 NFL schedule, and it was a good one.
Plus, it could help them return to the spotlight in 2027.
