The Deshaun Watson comeback story added another incredible chapter in Thursday night’s 27-24 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers. It was the fifth consecutive win for the Browns at home over the Steelers and also the first time Watson had ever beaten the Steelers in his career.
Watson was 24-for-33 for 268 yards, one touchdown, an interception, and a fumble. The turnovers obviously weren’t ideal, but he made up for it by leading multiple scoring drives and being in control of this offense for a full 60 minutes like a veteran quarterback should.
During a recent appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, former Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott stopped by and talked about Watson’s recent performances. He believes the fans saw glimpses of Houston Texans Deshaun Watson on Thursday, which is something we haven’t seen since he came to Cleveland.
“Going back to Deshaun in Houston, that’s where he had his best years…You saw that last night again,” said McDermott.

Watson now has six touchdowns and two picks on the year while completing just under 70 percent of his passes. He has also shown no signs of being slowed from his Achilles injury and has run for 127 yards through four games. He is on pace to run the ball more often than he ever has in his career, which is a big reason why he was a logical fit in Todd Monken’s offense in the first place.
Watson has led the Browns to three victories via three consecutive game-winning drives, which is something no Browns QB has done in nearly 50 years. If he can keep it going, he has a chance to bring Cleveland its first five-game winning streak since 1994.
Every other professional sports team has won five in a row since the Browns last won five in a row. It’s almost unfathomable that it’s even on the table given what the expectations were prior to this season, but Houston Watson might be here. If he’s here to stay, who knows what the rest of this season might look like.
